Dr. Karr receives MAGD…

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009 - admin
If you are like the average person you may not know just exactly what the initials behind Dr. Karr’s name mean.  However, the initials behind his name are of more benefit to you, his patients, than they are to him. Dr. Karr has recently earned his Mastership, making him a MAGD.  Just what does that mean?  MAGD stands for Master in the Academy of General Dentistry.
The AGD is the professional association for general dentists.  Dr. Karr has been a member and actively participated in the AGD since 1990.  Dr. Karr has held numerous offices in the Panhandle AGD and Texas AGD.  He is the only dentist in the Texas Panhandle to have served as the President of the Texas AGD. He also has served as a regional director at the national level for the AGD.  AGD members are dedicated to continuing education to help them stay up-to-date on the latest procedures to provide quality treatment. The AGD believes that the general dentist who remains current in general dentistry is better able to offer to you and your family a variety of diagnosis and treatment choices.
After becoming a member of the AGD Dr. Karr earned his FAGD.  This stands for Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry.  Fellowship is an award offered to members that requires 500 hours of education after dental school in various disciplines and passing a rigorous exam.  Dr. Karr was able to obtain this achievement in .
Less than 1% of all general dentists have a Mastership in the AGD. In order to obtain this award many requirements have to be met.  600 credit hours of continuing dental education must be met.  Of the 600 hours 400 of those hours must be in participation courses. The 600 hours must be earned in specific disciplines.  This helps create a well-rounded dentist.
All of us are so proud of Dr. Karr for his accomplishments.  What a great Achievement!
